Scale Model Airplane Drawings

Scale Drawings…?
The wingspan of an airplane measures 90 feet. A model of the airplane has a wingspan of 4 1/2 (4.5) inches. What scale was used to build the model?
If you don’t know which “scale” I am talking about, look at the definition.
Definition of “scale”: a scale is a ratio of the measurements in a drawing of an object to the corresponding measurements of the actual object.
Thanks for your help and please post a reasonable answer!
uhm… can you guys tell me the answer?
Excuse me, but how can the answer be 1: 240? The plane is only 90 feet long!
A scale involving feet and inches is usually stated in one of two ways: 1 inch = x feet or x/y inch = 1 foot. First decide which you are going to use. I suggest the first here.
Set up your ratios: 4.5″:90′::1″/x’ and solve for x. If that notation is new to you, it means 4.5″ is to 90′ as 1″ is to x’ or 4.5′/90′=1″/x’.
