Sound System for Car?
I drive a 1989 Grand Am, I inherited from my grandmother. After 19 years, the car’s standard radio/cassette player doesn’t sound so great. If you use it for more than an hour, it gets fuzzy and starts making a pounding noise. I don’t turn my music up loud, so I haven’t blown the speakers out.
I am looking to put in a new sound system: the kind that goes right in the center where the radio controls are. I don’t want anything big or crazy or super loud, just a decent sound system that I can plug my iPod into and buy at a common retail store in Canada. Links appreciated.
If my question is really vague, I apologize, I know very little about cars or sound systems.

But there may be some hidden costs, like you may need a mounting kit, so the deck will fit into your dash, you may need a wire harness to basically convert the wires to fit your car, and you may need an antenna adapter. Future Shop has all this, and can explain it better for you. Some of parts range in price, and usually the older your car, the cheaper and easier it will be to install a deck. For example, I drive a 2001 Cavalier. It cost me $100 for my CD Deck, $150 for computer wire harness made for cars over 2000, and another $20 for the antenna adapter. I wouldn’t think you would have to pay that much though.
And for speakers, I actually have the same fuzzy sound coming from one of my speakers too, and I have an after market deck. So I need new speakers too. Speakers will probably cost you a fair bit depending on which speakers you buy. If you know someone who could install all this for free, you would save a lot, because you can get really cheap speakers off of eBay. If not, then try to get speakers on sale at Future Shop. I find every other 2-3 weeks, Future Shop has a really great deal on speakers.
