Radio Control Spektrum Dx6i
Can you use a heli/airplane radio controller on a ground robot? Spektrum dx6i?
A project I am working on at school involves building a robot that can be controlled by a radio controller. The team who worked on it last year bought a Spektrum dx6i controller which says it’s for airplanes and helicopters. I dont know why they bought that. So the robot just needs to drive forward/backwards/left/right and has 2 motors, 1 for the left track and one for the right. So will this controller work?
The Controller does not care what it is controlling, you could use that controller on any rc machine that you are building from the ground up.
“A typical 4-channel RC airplane controller might have controls for throttle, diving/climbing (elevator), turning left and right (rudder), and rolling left and right (aileron). Other channels on transmitters are for controlling additional features including lights and sounds.”
“An RC vehicle has one or more controls or actions, such as for the throttle and for steering. The number of actions that the RC transmitter controls are referred to as channels. A basic 2-channel controller would have a channel for throttle and another for turning left and right.”
From the above, it looks like more Controller than you need, you have it, go ahead and use it.

You will need a Receiver package that matches the frequency of the Controller, unless they bought that last year also.
