Radio Control Jet Engine Fuel
DID SOMEBODY TRY TO BUILD AN INEXPENSIVE ROCKET ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO ?
I have a very vague recollection of seeing somebody on TV who had the plan to build a rocket as cheaply as possible, to prove how easy and inexpensive it could be to put someone in space.
This story might be well known in aerospace circles for all I know.
I think it was for a basic sub orbital flight. All I recall was he was going to modify the shell of (I think) a jet engine as the basis for the one man capsule. I believe he had already obtained a rocket engine and fuel tanks, and some other parts, although I’m not so sure just how advanced his plans were. I have a mental picture of mission control being a dish, radio equipment, and a TRS-80 computer.
I think the stuntman Evel Knievel had expressed an interest in actually piloting the craft.
These are just little fragments of memory for me, could have been around 1978-1983 timeframe
The OTRAG rocket fits into your time frame, but this didn’t have the hardware or Evil Knievel.
