Radio Control Ice Chest

Custom car amplifier installation question?
I made an ice chest radio with an amp, 4 speakers, battery and an ipod. I upgraded from a 2 channel to a 4 channel amp. Now I am having problems with getting sound out of all 4 speakers. My old 2 channel amp had one gain control and one set of rca jacks. My new 4 channel amp has 2 sets of gain controls and 2 sets of rca jacks. The cable coming out of my ipod only has one red and one white rca jack to plug in. If I bought a y-adapter for my rca ipod cable would I be able to get sound out of all 4 speakers? Another problem I am having is the gain control on the amp doesn’t seem to be working. When I plug the rca cable in I get sound out of 2 speakers, but it is very loud and I am unable to turn it down.
Hunter H, your answer is incorrect: output voltage does not get cut in half when you use RCA splitters.
If the amplifier doesn’t have a 2/4 channel input switch (some do), then your only option is to use Y-adapters to split the signal into all the input jacks at the amplifier. If the gain control isn’t changing the output level at all, that’s a problem with the amplifier; but the gain isn’t meant to be a volume control. You should be able to adjust the volume through the iPod, or you can install an in-line RCA volume control knob between the iPod and the Y-adapters.
