I Thought My Husband Was Controlling, But Now I’m Not So Sure.?
No physical abuse in my 20 year marriage, but I did think my husband controlling – until reading these posts about insulting, abusive men. Mine’s not name calling or hateful, should I lighten up? Is the problem mine? My family’s deceased, he doesn’t care for my few friend so I’m fairly isolated. He manages our money (says I’m not good with it). I’ve a Master’s Degree but he wants me home, I can’t drive our cars without asking, when I do he complains I drive fast (nicely, “it wastes gas to drive fast”). He controls my seat adjustment, the radio, leans over to check my guages, even adjusts my side of the dual temp control! He panics if I misplace my car keys even for a second. Doesn’t forbid me running errands alone but lists reasons I shouldn’t until i give. One topic I won’t budge is my cat. Had her 21 yrs, he wants her gone but I won’t so we talk it constantly. Lately, I barely eat. My husband can’t control the food I eat which feels empowering for some reason. Any ideas?
You are being abused and manipulated. The fact that you are searching for things to control is a HUGE red flag. Please find some help.
