Why Fifth Scale RC Vehicles Rock
With an ever growing market in newer innovations of radio controlled cars, it is no surprise that 1/5 scale RC cars are leading the trend. In the earlier days, battery powered cars were simple, and in many cases, still are. Although the smaller battery powered radio controlled options still dominate the market, 1/5 RC cars and often 1/4 RC cars are beginning to leap ahead in popularity.
The reasons are simple. People who are serious about racing and hobby mechanics enjoy the versatility and speed that comes with the larger model RC cars. In model RC cars, size matters. Bigger tires, frames and much larger scale versions of old favorites have become serious contenders. Though the 1/8 scale RC cars have been what most recognize, they’re simply not built for higher impact. These models were meant for entertainment’s sake. The serious enthusiasts have been gravitating towards the bigger models, owing to their improved power distribution and greater levels of torque.
For a time, though, the 1/8th models were the only real option. Then came the 1/5 scale RC cars. These big on size, big on fun models give a higher power option to those who simply need more. Generally, these measure over a foot in height and three feet in length. 1/5 scale RC cars are not for the enthusiast who likes a smaller, zippier little machine, but they can move. Their speed capacity is surprisingly near fifty miles an hour and many models come “ready to run”. Very little assembly is needed, the engine does not need to be run in and in no time, RC fans can be racing their larger scale cars and enjoying that added power.
Most of the 1/5 RC cars run on a 29cc engine with a 2.4G transmitter. The instructions will tell you that they can reach a maximum speed of up to 44 miles per hour, and the dimensions are nothing short of magnificent. 817L x 480W X 255mm, on front wheels around 395mm. Rear wheels will be 400mm. Rear disc brakes make for a smooth stop on a dime, the wheelbase of 570mm carries a much more stable, durable framework, and the front suspension travel of 95mm ensures a great sport RC car. The fuel of choice is gasoline, but there are oil additives similar to that of a two stroke motor bike.
For people who have been a bit put off by the nitro models of 1/4 RC scale or 1/5 scale RC Cars, the gas-fueled models are definitely something you can get behind. Extremely high powered engines, high torque servos, great, hardy long travel suspension systems make up just a part of the advantages. Add in the heavy duty drive trains, excellent tread and high grip tires as well as larger fuel tanks and high clearance and once you’ve gone with a 1/5 RC cars, you’ll never go back to smaller models again.
Off road 1/5 RC cars are the toughest hobby cars on the market today. With those stronger frames and much more durable suspension systems, they are able to move through some of the harshest landscapes The ride may be bumpy, but with a high powered 1/5 scale RC car, it’s always a great time and it’s never difficult for the RC. While 1/4 RC scale models may not be as tough, but they are still comparable.
In other parts of the world, you might find gas-fueled 1/5 scale RC cars are known as “gassers” and “fuelies”. When you use the pre-mixed blend of oil and gas, you get a strong, long lasting ride that can really move. Though it may seem that the upfront cost is a little more, you will actually find that these hardy all-terrain vehicles actually cost less to run in the long run. In spite of the high powered nature of the 1/5 RC cars, they don’t take much fuel to run. They don’t have the high top end speeds, typical of nitro and electric powered RC cars. Once it’s all said and done, gas powered 1/5 RC cars carry about the same expense as the other models.
Another reason that 1/5 scale RC cars rock is that they are very easy to maintain. Most people don’t realize it but if you’re not overly mechanically inclined, usually a small engine shop will do the trick. However, when maintenance is as easy as it is to do, it shouldn’t be any issue keeping your 1/5 scale RC cars in great shape. They almost never require any sort of tuning and they’re built to last. Rough and ready construction is absolutely made for off-roading. Therefore, these 1/5 scale RC cars are hard to wreck and even harder to beat.
