enhancing R/C Airplane flying duration?
I have a Radio-controlled Plane (twin motor electric) medium sized, it flies for 10-15 minutes, is there anyway I can do to enhance its flying duration, please answer with details thank you very much
Is there some sort of quick recharge Solar batteries, that should work as back up or is there a way to add another batteries but that shold make the plane a little heavier please is there a solution do let me know.
My guess would be probably not. It would be just like full-scale airplanes–either reduce drag, or increase fuel (or in your case, battery life).
If the motors are throttleable you could try flying slower. Propellers with a higher pitch might also be useful if you can control the RPMs; you’d be able to operate the motor at a lower RPM for the same airspeed.
A rather extreme possibility would be shutting down one motor in flight, if you could feather the propeller on the non-operating motor, but then you could get into problems if you got too slow–you’d discover Vmc (minimum controllable airspeed), just like full-scale airplanes. Get too slow in a twin with one engine out, and the rudder runs out of effectiveness–and the airplane will roll over and dive.
Larger diameter wires running from the battery to the motors (through whatever control devices) might have a small effect, by reducing resistance, but that’s already probably very low, and the weight penalty would probably counter any gains in range.
Making sure everything is set up perfectly will help. Any variation from the ideal is going to cause drag; slightly mis-rigged flight controls, for example, can droop just a little in flight, and add a drag penalty.
Sounds like a pretty good challenge. I doubt there’s any reliable test-flight data for your R/C airplane (like there would be for full-size airplanes), so I would think that you will have to experiment to find what works.
