Do you know of any GOOD noise-isolating earphones that block almost ALL exterior noise?
I am NOT looking for “noise canceling” which simply counterbalances low-frequency noise with more “opposite” noise. I need something that BLOCKS outside noise well, including children screaming and other loud, shrill noises when I am in situations where I am in no danger but must have all noises blocked for my sanity (such as on an airplane, in a noisy crowded store, or riding with young children), and no I will not be driving or walking on the street with earphones on.
So far, all the “good reviews” ear buds I have tried (Sennheiser, Radio Shack, Shure) are nice and do help, but they don’t block noise adequately, certainly not enough for the prices! I would actually prefer on-ear isolating cups, though I’ve heard the pressure tends to hurt after a while on almost all models, and I’m concerned about the obvious bulk.
If anyone has any good ideas, please let me know. If you happen to be sensory defensive like myself, I am even more eager to read any good recommendations you have!
You mention ear buds . Many consider them too small to “block” noise . RadioShack offers a “race” headphone for taking to the track . Its big, its bulky, its mono, but it does a very effective job of blocking out external noise by covering your ear with a seal (not lightweight foam).
It looks like hearing protectors you might see at a gun firing range.
