Model Airplane Making Kits
What did you make with your own two hands as a kid?
That maybe one of your parents saved for you to see when you were
grown up and appreciate your young talents. I remember art worik I’d
painted. But my pride and joy was a model A kit, that I put together so I had a mini hot rod. I still remember all of those tiny parts that made the car so realistic, that I glued on with a toothpick and airplane
glue. It was hard to get off of my fingers.
I made very many things with my own hands, some from being quite young. My father was very artistic and taught me how to draw and paint. My mother was a very good seamstress and taught me how to make my own clothes, often from clothes she was given for herself (so we’d unpick all the seams, wash and iron the fabric and start again with a new, smaller pattern, for something for me). By the time I was in secondary school I had made myself many garments using an old treadle machine. My maternal grandmother loved to crochet and taught me whilst my paternal grandmother did the most beautiful embroidery you ever did see (it was difficult to tell the different between the wrong side and the correct side) and she taught me how to do that (not quite a well as she could but not bad).
All this proved very helpful when I married as I could make my own wedding and bridesmaids dresses, later many of the required baby clothes and more clothes as my children grew. I have since learn to knit and now do so for my granddaughter. With failing eyesight I am so glad that I tacked all these things in my youth and made a good job of them.
It is sad to say that my own children are not remotely interested in learning how to do any of these things.
