Model Airplane Electric Engines

Which fuel would be better?

I am making a model aeroplane and am confusing to choose the fuel. The body of my model aeroplane is somewhat big and weighs about 2-3kg. Now I have tried for electric but was not successful. So which type of engine would be better either jets or internal combustion?

You can’t get a jet engine small enough for that type of weight. I always suggest electric as gas engines are temper mental (to say the least). With the new brushless motors and LIPoly batteries you can make anything fly.

But if you are stuck on a fuel powered plane at 6LBS. your best option is NitroMethane (with a premixed lubricant). This is the standard fuel for model aviation of that size.

http://www.towerhobbies.com/ is a great place to start. They have beginners guides and all. I used to buy a crap load of stuff from them when I was younger.

Not knowing your design other than weight I would over-power it a little with a .40 CU glow engine.

If you are stuck on jets you can get a ducted fan that uses the same size glow engine and looks/feels like a jet but without the cost/weight. The sound/performance is nothing like a turbine sadly.

Good luck
