Model Airplane Balsa
Material that can be heat shrinked over plastic?
I have a laptop with a webcam and the place I work at doesn’t allow cameras. The last laptop I had, I took the bezel off and spray painted it and it came out pretty good but still looked cheesy and they let me in with that. I’m thinking that getting some material that shrinks and forms with heat will look more professional. I know they have this stuff for model airplanes, to put over the balsa wood frame but I’m not sure if that would adhere to plastic. Any ideas?
There are two kinds of things used on model airplanes and I don’t think either one will work well in your case – one is a plastic film that shrinks by heat and the other is “doped fabric” which involves painting a lacquer based paint onto fabric which shrinks and becomes quite stiff. Both are glued first and neither would look any better than painting a solid surface which you found cheesy.
If this is a permanent change, I would suggest buying an attractive (to you) plaque or button at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby and gluing it over the lens. If you used rubber cement or 100% silicone adhesive (which stays rubbery – not GOOP which gets very hard) you probably would be able to slice under the button/plaque to get it off and then rub the glue off the lens to make it usable later.
