Remote Control Helis – Introduction and Special Uses
The sport of building and flying radio control (RC) helis is a very large and exciting one. It has seen a large increase recently in popularity, due to mirco electric RC helicopters being mass produced for beginners, and those new to the market. they normally fit in the palm of your hand, are nice to control, and a crash nine times out of ten will not conclude in any damage. An example is the Blade MSR micro remote control helicopter. It has similar controls to the full scale remote control helicopters, but at a much cheaper cost. Whilst they do not share the complexities of their larger siblings, they are an excellent introduction to the hobby, and will make the pilot eager to go on to more challanging radio control heli missions.
If you are serious about getting into the sport, and you have a bigger budget, a 600 nitro RC helicopter, or a 50 size nitro helicopter is ideal for learning on. Seek help from a local heli club if in doubt.
A heli has five main controls. The rudder is responsible for spinning the helicopter about its axis. lastly, the throttle and pitch combined give the lift, or if flying in fast forward flight, the speed of the remote control helicopter. It takes many hours to learn to balance all of these controls on the radio transmitter. It can take a very long time to master these controls Some of the major radio control equipment manufacturers are Futaba, JR, Spektrum and Hitec. A remote control helicopter sim is an great solution for learning, whilst inside on a rainy day. It will also save you from an expensive crash. It caters for fixed wing and rotary aircraft, and includes training modes to perfect your skills.
At the upper end of the RC Helicopters price range, we move on to specialist areas. These include high performance 3D helicopters for aerobatics. Very large scale helis, usually utilising a mini turbine engines, for very realistic flight sounds. Aerial photography platforms to allow video to be recorded of the surrounding areas. however you choose to progress through this hobby you will have many hours of fun There is never a dull moment when flying RC helicopters, as you progress you skill will improve and make you a better pilot, and you move on to larger and better electric or nitro RC helicopters.
