Building Flying Model Airplanes
I build scale model airplanes. In 1/6th scale, what would a 175lb. pilot weigh?
Obviously 1/6th of that is 29lbs. The flying model itself is supposed to come out at around 20lbs. So, a 29lb. (1/6th scale) pilot is rediculous (a 1/6th model of a six foot pilot is 12″ tall). I think this question may be harder than it first appears. Any mathematicians out there?
Since all dimensions would be scaled down by a factor of six, the pilot’s volume would be reduced by a factor of 6^3 or 216. Since volume and weight are proportional, the pilot’s weight would be 1/216 of the full-scale weight.
